Description

30 Fountainhall Road is a two-storey, seven-bay triple villa built in 1880 by Arthur Colville. The building features squared and snecked rubble with coursed stugged sandstone on the south (entrance) elevation. It has a base, dividing band, and eaves courses, along with long and short quoins, a bracketed cornice, and chamfered reveals.

The south elevation has mirrored two-bay outer villas and a central three-bay villa. The entrance showcases tripartite ashlar doorpieces with carved consoles that support cornices and round-arched canopies at the second and sixth bays. The fourth bay features a doorpiece with detached capitalled columns and an open pediment. Each doorpiece has panelled doors and plate glass fanlights above, with full-height canted windows at the first, fifth, and seventh bays, and single windows in the remaining bays.

The east and west elevations have single windows at both the principal and first floors, with a secondary entrance and a small single window at the basement level. The villa has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate pitched roof with coped skews, and pedimented segmental-arched timber slate-hung dormers above the first, fifth, sixth, and seventh bays. There are six corniced stacks, including two at the gable heads, two mutual stacks, and two ridge stacks, along with moulded octagonal cans and some original rainwater goods, as well as moulded eaves guttering.

The interiors have not been seen since 1990. The property is bordered by a low saddleback coped wall with replacement railings to the street, original cast-iron railings to the mutual and boundary wall, and original cast-iron handrails leading up to the entrances.
