Description
54 Grange Loan is a double villa built around 1860, featuring two stories and a symmetrical six-bay rectangular plan. The exterior is made of squared and coursed sandstone rubble with polished dressings. A central double porch is present, along with a base and blocking courses, a deep cornice, raised window surrounds, and quoin strips.
On the south elevation, there are central entrances with a stone porch supported by detached piers that hold up an entablature and blocking course. The porch returns are blocked-in, and it has a stone soffit with pilasters flanking each doorway. The entrances feature panelled doors and letterbox fanlights, with single windows above and in the remaining bays.
The east elevation has a single window between the ground and first floors and an adjoining flat-roofed garage. The west elevation also has a single window between the ground and first floors.
The villa has plate glass sash and case windows and a grey slate pitched roof, with single and canted dormers symmetrically placed on the south side. The gables are coped, and there are two corniced wallhead stacks, along with some original rainwater goods.
The interiors were not seen in 1990. There are low saddleback walls along the street and cast-iron railings at No 56.
