House Adjoining Walled Garden, Colinton House, Colinton Road, Edinburgh

This building, known as the House Adjoining Walled Garden at Colinton House on Colinton Road in Edinburgh, was constructed in 1801 by Richard Crichton, based on a plan by John Fraser from 1795. It is a single-storey, three-bay plain classical cottage featuring a piended roof and a later single-storey extension to the northwest. The exterior is made of coursed rubble with droved ashlar dressings, including a base course and eaves course. The building has tabbed window margins and long and short quoins, and its rear elevation is integrated into the northeast wall of the walled garden.

On the northeast, or principal elevation, there is a modern door that is deeply recessed within a slightly advanced plain architrave, complete with a cornice and blocking course. Windows are located on either side of the door. The cottage predominantly features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, along with a small 4-pane timber window facing the garden. The roof is covered with graded grey slates and has lead flashings, while tall coped ashlar stacks with yellow clay cans rise from the roof.
