7 Crichton Road, Rothesay, Bute

This building at 7 Crichton Road in Rothesay, Bute, dates from the earlier to mid 19th century and is a single-storey, three-bay house designed in a plain classical style. It features a later bell-cast roof and dormers reminiscent of the style of Alexander Thomson, along with single-storey additions at the rear. The exterior is finished in whitewashed render with painted margins and narrow strip quoins. A raised band course marks the principal floor, and the eaves are overhanging with timber brackets. The ground floor windows have stepped hoodmoulds, and there are consoled brackets beneath the balustraded timber cills. The central gable has a pilastered doorpiece.

On the northwest (entrance) elevation, there are stairs leading to a two-leaf timber panelled door that is centered at the ground level. This door is topped with a plate-glass fanlight and is framed by flanking pilasters, a plain frieze, a cornice, a block pediment, and a raised keystone. There are single windows in the outer bays to the left and right, and gabled dormers are symmetrically placed across all three bays.

The windows are 2-pane timber sash and case. The front features a grey slate bell-cast roof with sandstone ridge stacks positioned to the left and right of the center, octagonal flues, and a single octagonal can to the east and a single circular can to the west.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The boundary wall consists of a coped, part-rendered random rubble wall along Crichton Road.
