Description

The former Dean Cemetery Gate Lodge, located at 70 Belford Road, was likely built in 1854 by David Cousin. This single-storey building has a roughly T-shaped plan and is constructed from coursed squared rubble, featuring long and short quoins and some moulded surrounds. It has a multi-pitched roof covered with grey slates and is topped with coped sandstone ashlar ridge stacks that have tall clay cans. The building also includes cast-iron rainwater goods.

Surrounding the lodge are low coped boundary walls with square plan piers that have a chamfered base-course and cornice. The boundary is further enhanced by cast-iron railings and gates adorned with foliate decoration.
