Description

Dell Court is a villa built around 1825, featuring two stories and three bays. The building has engaged Ionic columns that support an entablature over the central doorway, which is flanked by two-storey canted bays. It has a shallow piended roof with deep blocked eaves. The exterior is made of droved sandstone ashlar, with squared, snecked sandstone rubble on the sides and rear. Architectural details include a base course, a band course, a first-floor cill course, and a moulded eaves course.

The front door is a non-traditional uPVC design but retains the original fanlight. There are Doric pilasters behind the engaged Ionic entablature with a blocking course, and a single window above. The canted bays on either side have three windows each. The sides of the villa have unsympathetic late 20th-century additions. The rear features later additions at ground level, including a large two-storey canted bay on the left and French doors on the right.

The villa has timber sash and case windows with 16-pane glazing on the front, while the rear windows have 9-pane glazing in the upper sashes and plate glass in the lower sashes. The chimney stacks are rendered with clay cans, and the roof is covered with graded grey slate.

Inside, there is a cantilevered staircase with wrought-iron balusters and a polished timber handrail, along with some surviving cornicing and a staircase window with decorative glazing.

The property is enclosed by a boundary wall made of random rubble, with a coped wall to the north and west. To the west, there are octagonal gatepiers that support stone bird-baths, a decorative wrought-iron gate, and stone steps leading from the pavement level to the garden.
