Description
Ledgrianach, located at 9 Woodhall Road in Edinburgh, is an office designed by Sir Robert Rowand Anderson or a former assistant, dated 1890. This building is a single-storey and attic pair of semi-detached villas with piend roofs, featuring canted bay windows and dormers with finials at the front. The front doors are accompanied by tall staircase windows and shouldered wallhead stacks on the sides, while the rear includes swept dormers and later scullery outshots. The structure is built from squared and snecked sandstone with red sandstone ashlar dressings, and it has long and short quoins. The fenestration is symmetrical, with tabbed window dressings. The timber panelled front doors retain their original brass handles and are set within roll-moulded architraves. Inside, the lobbies are tiled, leading to half-glazed timber panelled inner doors.
On the north (front) elevation, there are large canted windows in the outer bays at ground level, with pedimented dormers above. The left dormer features a segmental pediment with a fleur-de-lys finial, while the right has a triangular pediment with a ball finial, both inscribed with the date 1890. The centre has paired windows at ground level, with bipartite dormers above that have open pediments and obelisk finials. The windows predominantly have 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style. The building features corniced shouldered stacks with some red clay cans and a roof covered in graded grey slate with red terracotta ridge tiles. Decorative cast-iron down-pipes with hoppers and wall brackets are also present.
The boundary wall is made of random rubble and is coped, with ashlar gate piers marking the entrance.
