Warehouse And Public House, 58 Shore, Leith, Edinburgh

This building is a warehouse and public house located at 58 Shore, Leith, Edinburgh, dating from the earlier 19th century. It is a four-storey, two-bay tenement with a public house, which was formerly a shop, on the ground floor. At the rear, there is a substantial three-storey modern building with a mansard attic. The front is made of sandstone, with dressed ashlar on the ground floor and droved ashlar above, while the sides are rendered. There is a band course above the ground floor, and the windows on the first and second floors have cornices, with ashlar mullions.

On the northwest (front) elevation, there are two broad depressed-arched openings at the ground floor, featuring modern glazing that has replaced the original radial fanlights and glazed doors. The upper floors have pilastered tripartite windows set in full-height recessed panels. A single rectangular dormer with a piended roof is present.

The southwest (Burgess Street) elevation is blank and features a tall wallhead stack. The northeast (Water’s Close) elevation mirrors the southwest elevation.

The front of the building has timber sash and case windows with plate glass glazing. The roof is piended and covered with slate, and there are two wallhead stacks linked to the roof. The interior was not seen in 1993.
