Description

346A Leith Walk is a later 19th century, three-storey terrace comprising nine symmetrical bays, which includes four two-bay houses with a central pend. The building is set back from the road and features forecourts that have been built up with later shops. It is constructed from grey sandstone, with stugged ashlar on the front and variegated coursed rubble at the rear. The structure has a base course and architraved doorways that are accessed from the first floor by steps, each featuring a rectangular plate glass fanlight, specifically a three-pane fanlight at No 334, and panelled doors. The eaves cornice is dentilled, and the corners are accentuated with channelled quoins.

On the southeast (front) elevation, the central pend has a segmental arch and a bull's-eye window divided by a timber mullion above it. The bays to the left and right of the central doorways are topped with a shared cornice, and there are single windows at the second floor above. The outer left and right bays have doorways with single windows above them at the second floor. The remaining bays feature single windows. There are modern box dormers on the houses to the right of the centre, while the left of centre has a canted bowed dormer and a small rectangular dormer, along with Velux rooflights on the outer left.

The northwest (rear) elevation has single windows and a central wallhead stack. The windows are timber sash and case, with plate glass and 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered in grey slate with lead flashings, and it features a wallhead stack and mutual coped stacks that are either rendered or rebuilt.

The interior was not seen in 1993. Original cast-iron railings are present at the steps of Nos 336 and 340, along with the remains of cast-iron lamp standards at No 346.
