Description
15 John Street is a classical house built around 1820, with later alterations. It is a single-storey building with an attic and has a symmetrical, rectangular plan with three bays. The exterior features droved ashlar with polished dressings, a harled northeast elevation, and a rubble southwest elevation. Notable architectural details include a base course, a dentilled cornice, a blocking course, and raised quoins.
On the northwest elevation facing John Street, there is a projecting central bay with a raised tablet above a nine-panelled door, which now has decorative glass middle panels. Above the door is a plate glass fanlight with an ogeed pelmet and a projecting block doorpiece. The flanking bays contain windows, and the walls are slightly set back with boarded doors on either side.
The southeast elevation, which is the rear, was not visible in 1994, except for the roofline. The building features plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with a platform at the apex, coped stacks, coped skews, and a small glass cupola at the rear.
The boundary wall is constructed of rubble with ashlar coping.
