Description

Earlier 19th century. 4-storey classical corner tenement with bowed end bay and shops at ground floor. Cream ashlar, droved ashlar to principal elevations, render and coursed rubble to rear. Cill band course to 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor; cornice above ground floor (except

No 3); eaves cornice and blocking course.

SW (DUKE STREET) ELEVATION: 4-bay; 4-storey bowed bay to outer left, shopfront at ground floor with doorway at centre and roll-moulded reveals to openings, 2 windows to each floor above. Single shopfront to remaining bays (doubled post 1980) with moulded Ionic pilasters, egg and dart cornice and gilded mortar and pestle sign; single windows to bays above. Short wallhead stack at centre.

NE (KIRKGATE) ELEVATION: 3-bay; common stair doorway at centre with 3-pane fanlight; shopfronts to either sides (to right boarded-up). Single windows to bays above (blocked to right bay); wallhead stack to right.

12-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof with metal flashings; 2 wallhead stacks.
