North Lodge, Fettes School, East Fettes Avenue, Edinburgh

North Lodge at Fettes School, designed by Robert Rowand Anderson in 1880, is a single-storey and attic L-plan Gothic lodge house. It is constructed from rock-faced coursed sandstone with polished dressings.

The principal elevation features a single-storey bay on the right, which includes a timber panelled door set in a shouldered surround, topped with a piend-roofed timber canopy. To the left, there is an advanced bay with a tiled, canted window on the ground floor, a bipartite cusped window above it, and a pointed-arched hoodmould. The upper sashes have small-pane leaded glazing. The roof is covered with red tiles and terracotta ridge tiles, and there are tall corniced stacks with cylindrical cans. The building also has cast iron rainwater goods.

The gates, gatepiers, and railings include decorative two-leaf iron gates and gothic detailed chamfered ashlar gatepiers with cusped panels. There are decorative iron railings on a coped wall that extend from the East Gate on East Fettes Avenue to the entrance of the Prep School to the north.
