2, 4, 6 Grindlay Street, Edinburgh

This building, located at 2, 4, and 6 Grindlay Street in Edinburgh, was constructed in 1872 and is a four-storey tenement. It features four bays facing Spittal Street and three bays along Grindlay Street, with a slightly recessed quadrant bay at the corner. The exterior is made of coursed ashlar stone with polished dressings, although the ground level has been painted.

Architectural details include a base course, a dividing band between the ground and first floors, and a cill course at the first and third floors, topped with a moulded eaves cornice. The ground floor has pilastraded shops with stop-chamfered openings. Windows on the first and second floors are set in moulded architraves with bracketed cills, while the upper floors feature bipartite windows in the outer left bay facing Spittal Street and the outer right bay facing Grindlay Street. Small carved panels displaying the date and initials are located on the second floor of both elevations.

The building predominantly has four-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, and the roof is covered with grey slates. There are corniced, rendered end and wallhead stacks, which rest on moulded bases at the wallhead.
