9, 9A Middleby Street With Boundary Walls And Pedestrian Gate, Edinburgh

This building, located at 9 and 9A Middleby Street in Edinburgh, dates from around 1817 and is a two-storey, three-bay classical villa. It is constructed from droved cream sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Key architectural features include a dividing band course, a cill course for the first-floor windows, a cornice, and a blocking course.

On the south elevation, which serves as the entrance, there are steps leading to a central doorway that features a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight. The doorway is framed by Tuscan columns supporting a corniced doorpiece. Above the doorway is a single window on the first floor, and there are single windows on the ground floor to the outer left and right. The first floor also has single windows above, each with panelled aprons.

The windows are four-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with coped wallhead stacks.

The interior was not seen in 1996.

Additionally, there are low coped boundary walls along the street, with replacement railings and a pedestrian gate next to the house on the west side, providing access to 9A.
