7 Middleby Street With Boundary Walls And Pedestrian Gate, Edinburgh

7 Middleby Street is a pair of symmetrical classical houses built around 1817. The buildings are two stories tall and have four bays, constructed from cream sandstone polished ashlar, with rusticated stonework at the ground level and rubble on the sides and rear. The design features a base course, a string course at the ground level, a dividing band course, a cill course for the first-floor windows, a cornice, and a blocking course that is raised in the center.

The south entrance elevation includes steps leading to round arched doorways in the two central bays, which have panelled doors and plate glass fanlights. Engaged Tuscan columns frame the doorways. There are single windows on the first floor above the doors, and round arched panels containing single windows on the ground floor to the outer left and right. The first-floor terminal bays feature enlarged windows with cast iron window guards. The windows are four-pane timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with a coped ridge stack and moulded cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The property is also enclosed by low droved and coped boundary walls, with replacement railings and pedestrian gates located next to the houses to the east and west.
