Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey, 3 bay classical building on corner site of Portobello High Street and Pipe Street, falling site to SE. Droved ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, at 1st floor; rubble side (SE) elevation; harled to rear; bull-face render addition to rear. Base course, band course between ground and 1st floor, cill course to 1st floor, cornice and blocking course.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: chamfered corner bay to left with entrance to shop at ground; window at 1st floor above. Shop window at ground bay to centre and to right with 1950s-style shop sign (Laundrette) to fascia, windows to each bay, 1st floor.

NW (PIPE STREET) ELEVATION: irregularly disposed bays. Shop window to ground, centre bay and to right. Blank window at 1st floor, bay to right, windows to 1st floor of remaining bays.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: 2-storey later addition to centre.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows to SW; 4-pane timber sash and case windows to NW. Grey slate piended roof. Rendered and coped wallhead stacks to outer right and between centre and bay to left, NW elevation; to outer right of NE elevation; and continuously along SE elevation.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1994. (Shop interior modernised).
