4-5-6 Nicolson Square, Edinburgh

4-5-6 Nicolson Square is a later 18th century, three-storey and attic tenement building featuring three bays. The ground floor has projecting, flat-roofed shops that have been altered, while the second and attic storeys are distinguished by decorative full-width iron balconies. The building is constructed of droved ashlar with painted margins, and the rear is made of rubble. Notable architectural details include a cill course and a deep, dentilled cornice.

To the right, steps lead up to a timber panelled entrance door topped with a fanlight that has a fan glazing pattern. The roof features a central pedimented dormer flanked by curved slated dormers. The windows display a mixture of glazing patterns, including some six-pane over plate glass timber sash and case windows on the first storey, and eight-pane timber French windows on the second storey. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped gables and wallhead stacks.
