Description

The Walled Garden at Riccarton Estate, part of Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, dates from the earlier 19th century. It has a rectangular plan measuring approximately 100 meters by 50 meters. The garden is enclosed by a high wall, featuring a red-brick interior and a squared sandstone rubble exterior. The structure includes ashlar margins and dressings, as well as ashlar slab coping, with canted corners on the interior. There are doors located in the west and south walls. On the exterior of the north wall, there are lean-to garden sheds and stores, along with later brick buttresses added against the north wall. The interior has been surfaced for use as a football pitch.
