Description

The sundial at Bonnington House is a late 17th century ashlar sandstone obelisk dial located to the west of the house, directly aligned with the west entrance within the former walled garden. The obelisk features a polyhedron cap on an ornamental pedestal, which is set on three diamond-aligned steps. The finial of the obelisk is broken off. The polyhedron has both bowl-shaped and flat dial faces. The pedestal is adorned with bowl and heart-shaped carved cavities, flat dial faces, and an armorial plaque displaying the arms of Cunninghame of Belton and Bonnington on the north side. The gnomons are missing.
