The Boathouse, Glenbrook House, Glenbrook Road, Balerno, Edinburgh

The Boathouse at Glenbrook House, located on Glenbrook Road in Balerno, Edinburgh, is an early 19th-century single-storey lodge with three bays, designed in a picturesque style. The building is constructed from squared, stugged, and snecked sandstone, featuring polished sandstone margins and dressings, quoin strips, and a base course.

On the west elevation, the three symmetrical bays now have a lean-to porch made of plywood and plastic at the center, which obscures the door, although the fanlight above the door is still visible. There are windows flanking the porch. The east elevation also has three windows arranged symmetrically, with a low, lean-to timber structure on the outer right. The north and south elevations each have a window located at the center of their bowed ends.

The lodge features 12-pane sash and case windows, with air vent panes incorporated into the windows on the north and south ends. The roof is a grey slate piended design with lead flashing and overhanging eaves, topped by a sandstone, corniced stack at the center ridge.

Inside, the original layout consisted of two large rooms, which have since been subdivided and modernized, though some simple cornices and ceiling rosettes remain.

To the right of the lodge, there are ashlar gatepiers with chamfered arrises and cushioned triangulated caps, which originally served as the main entrance to Glenpark.
