Eastern Breakwater, Granton Harbour, Edinburgh

The Eastern Breakwater at Granton Harbour in Edinburgh was constructed between 1853 and 1863. It is an L-plan breakwater that stretches 3,170 feet long. The structure features battered rubble sides topped with large ashlar kerb blocks and has an interlocked rubble surface. There are concrete steps leading down to the eastern side, and at the northern tip, remnants of a timber jetty can be found. Additionally, there is a World War II concrete lookout post at the northern tip, which has a flat roof, a door to the southeast, and a viewing/gun embrasure facing the seaward approaches. Along the western (harbour) side, there are two rectangular concrete pillboxes positioned at intervals. These pillboxes have flat roofs and are supported on stilts over a sloping embankment wall, featuring one and two entrances and gun embrasures, respectively.
