Description
New Bridge in Newbridge Village is a two-span segmental arch bridge designed by Alexander Stevens, dating from around 1800. It features a third overflow arch and is constructed from squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. The bridge has a hoodmoulded arch ring with alternating projecting voussoirs. A central triangular cut-water support is present, with a blind margined oculus above it. There is a bracketted string course and a coursed parapet that includes a central applied pilaster above the oculus, topped with ashlar coping. Additionally, there is a shallow flood arch on the northwest bank in the wing wall, which has a plain string course and coping that continues the line of the main bridge. The dressed voussoirs add to the architectural detail.
