Leith Victoria Boxing Club, 28 Academy Street, Edinburgh

Leith Victoria Boxing Club, located at 28 Academy Street in Edinburgh, was built after 1876 and is a single-storey building with a curved corner design featuring classical details. The exterior is made of cream sandstone, with tooled ashlar and polished dressings on the main facades, while the rear is constructed from coursed rubble. Notable architectural features include a base course, a cill course, a moulded band course above the windows, an eaves cornice with a blocking course, and shouldered and lugged architraved windows that are adorned with ornamental cast-iron window guards or grilles. The building also has rusticated quoins.

On the northwest elevation facing Academy Street, there is a three-bay façade with a slightly recessed curved corner bay and rusticated quoins on the outer left. The outer right features an architraved doorway with a bracketed cornice, a two-leaf panelled door, and a segmental-arched plate glass fanlight. There are single windows in the centre and corner bay.

The northeast elevation, facing St Andrew Place, also has a three-bay design with a curved corner bay and single windows, matching the detailing of the northwest elevation.

The southwest elevation includes a large flat-roofed harled extension at the rear.

The windows are timber sash and case style, with six-pane top sashes and infilled lower sashes. The roof is piended and curved, covered with slate and fitted with metal flashings.

The interior was not seen during the inspection in 1993.
