Description
Southfield Farmhouse, built around 1827, is a plain classical two-storey house with a piend roof and three bays. It is constructed from coursed cream sandstone with ashlar dressings. There is a later wing to the west that is connected to a modern conservatory.
The north (principal) elevation features a cill course at the first floor and an eaves cornice. The ground floor has openings set in recessed bays, with an advanced central bay that includes a timber panelled door topped by a border-glazed fanlight.
Inside, there are some original plasterwork and chimneypieces, as well as an original staircase with decorative cast iron balusters and a veneered handrail. The windows are predominantly timber sash and case, with six-pane upper sashes and later plate glass lower sashes. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are corniced end stacks.
