Description

Blackford Hill Lodge, built around 1895, is a single-storey lodge designed in an L-shape. It features half-timbered gables supported by dragon corbels and is constructed from variegated pink sandstone and cyclopean rubble, with ashlar dressings. The lodge has an ashlar base course, plain barge boards with wooden tie rods, and carved pendants. It also includes timber mullions and transoms, along with overhanging eaves that reveal exposed rafters.

On the east elevation, there is a projecting gabled bay to the left, which has a corbelled, canted timber oriel adorned with an egg and dart cornice. The central light is round-arched and features a keystone, while the half-timbered gablehead jetties out over elaborately carved dragon corbels. To the right, there is a canted ashlar entrance porch with a tall parapet set at an angle in the re-entrant corner.

The north elevation mirrors the gabled jamb details of the east gable and has a tall corniced wallhead stack on the return to the right. The south elevation features single windows to the right and later public conveniences to the left.

The lodge has multi-pane timber casements and top-hoppers for the oriels, as well as 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with red tiles and includes red ridge tiles, one wallhead stack, and a pair of linked drum stacks at the ridge. The interior was not seen in 1992.
