Description
The Walled Garden at Gogar Bank House dates from the earlier 19th century and is situated to the south of the house. It measures approximately 80 by 50 metres and slopes from north to south, featuring a curved northern end. The Gogar Burn runs through the garden, separating the upper and lower sections. The exterior wall is constructed of large sandstone rubble, while the interior is made of coursed red brick with ashlar slab coping. There are doors on the east and west sides of the northern end that provide access to an upper pathway running through the garden. These doors are two-leaf boarded with a sandstone door surround that includes a cornice and a small ashlar niche at the centre of the curved wall. The walls on the east and west sides extend over the Gogar Burn, supported by squared and droved ashlar, and feature a segmental arch bridge that stands proud of the wall. This bridge includes an impost moulding, a moulded arch-ring, and a projecting keystone.
