Boswell's Court, 352 Castlehill, Edinburgh

Boswell's Court, located at 352 Castlehill in Edinburgh, is an early 17th-century tenement that has undergone later alterations, including work by Hardy and Wight in 1895. The building stands four storeys high with an attic and features a seven-bay layout. It is constructed of sandstone with ashlar dressings, has a stuccoed and channelled ground floor, and is harled on the sides and rear. Moulded string courses run between the floors, and red sandstone long and short quoins are present.

The north elevation facing Castlehill is regularly fenestrated. The ground floor was altered in 1895, with an architraved and corniced surround to the close entry on the outer left. The attic features five dormer-headed windows with finials, with three on the right side separated from two on the left by a later wallhead stack.

On the east elevation, which faces Boswell's Close, there are two gabled bays with apex stacks and small irregular windows. A carved lintel marks the stair entrance, which is accessed through a timber panelled door in a roll-moulded surround.

The south elevation at the rear has two harled gabled bays with apex stacks and is irregularly fenestrated, with the left bay featuring a crowstepped gable. The building has 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, grey slate roofing, and corniced end and wallhead stacks with circular cans. Stone skews are also present.
