Description

John Muirhead, 1864. 4-storey attic and basement tenement with Scottish 17th century revival detailing; 5 bays to Johnston Terrace, 7 bays to Castle Wynd North. Squared and snecked rubble. String courses at 1st, 2nd and attic floors. Crowstepped gables.

S (JOHNSTON TERRACE) ELEVATION: forestair with cast-iron railings (door and windows under steps) rising from left to right to entrance terrace. Timber panelled door in pilastered surround with broken pediment. Regularly fenestrated. Gabled 2-bay section to centre, corbelled out at 2nd and attic floors; gabled dormerheads to attic in 2 right and outer left bays.

W (CASTLE WYND NORTH) ELEVATION: gabled 2-bay section to right (left bay blind) with wallhead stack; string course at 2nd floor steps up over blank panel. 2-bay block to centre with 2-light gabled dormerhead breaking eaves to attic. 3-bay block to left regularly fenestrated; gabled dormerheads to attic breaking eaves.

4-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Corniced stacks with circular cans.
