Description

6 Shore Road is a near-symmetrical, 2-storey, 3-bay gabled villa built in the late 19th to early 20th century. The exterior features coursed, bull-faced red sandstone with red sandstone ashlar dressings. It has a raised base course, a corniced ground floor canopy, and architraved cills for the corniced first-floor windows. The building showcases overhanging timber eaves, fretted king-post gableheads, and tapering finials. Stugged quoins and sandstone mullions are also present, along with a columnar porch and harl-pointed random red rubble sandstone on the sides.

On the northeast elevation, there is a centrally located 2-leaf timber panelled door at ground level, leading to a projecting porch supported by a pair of Ionic columns. This porch has a continuous corniced canopy over flanking projecting windows, which include a 3-light canted window to the outer left and a 5-light projecting window to the outer right. Above, at the first floor, a single window is set beneath a fretted gable, with 3-light canted windows beneath larger fretted gables in the outer bays.

The northwest side elevation features a 2-light corniced, canted window at ground level, with a single window aligned directly above it. The villa is fitted with 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, a graded grey slate roof, and original cast-iron rainwater goods. Sandstone apex stacks are located at the northwest and southeast corners, topped with circular terracotta cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The boundary wall surrounding the site at the front is made of harl-pointed rubble and features round-arched rubble coping.
