Description
This is a mid to later 19th century house and associated boundary wall and gatepiers located at 2, 3 and 4 Shore, Port Bannatyne.
The house is a symmetrical, two-storey with attic, three-bay structure in a plain classical style. It is flanked by single-storey, single-bay piended pavilions, with recessed porches to the outer left and right sides. The exterior is finished in harl with painted margins. A raised band course runs at principal floor level and a lintel course sits beneath the corniced eaves, topped with a painted blocking course. Narrow strip quoins are present, along with corniced windows on the ground floor, projecting cills and a pilastered front entrance. An outbuilding, single storey and seven bays, adjoins the boundary wall to the southeast, constructed from whitewashed rubble with boarded timber doors.
The northeast (entrance) elevation features steps leading to a timber panelled door centred at ground level, with a replacement fanlight above. The door is surrounded by a doorpiece with flanking pilasters, a plain frieze, a block pediment and a raised keystone. A single window is aligned above the door at the first floor. The elevation is regularly fenestrated with windows at both floors, flanking the entrance. Three-light canted dormers are positioned above. Single windows are centred within the recessed pavilions to the outer left and right, while timber doors are centred in the recessed entrance porches to the outer left and right.
The southwest (rear) elevation includes a timber panelled door at ground level, offset to the left of centre, and a stair window at the first floor. There are single windows at both floors in two bays to the right, and single windows at ground level within the recessed pavilions to the outer right. A full-height single bay addition is situated to the left of the entrance, featuring single windows at both floors. Also present are single windows at both floors in the bay to the outer left, and single windows at ground level in recessed pavilions to the outer left. Three-light canted dormers are located in the bays to the outer left and right of the main house.
The roof is covered with predominantly replacement grey slate, with raised skews and replacement rainwater goods. Raised skews are present. Coped apex stacks are located to the northwest and southeast, while a coped wallhead stack is centred at the rear, topped with octagonal cans. Mostly replacement glazing is present, with some original eight-pane timber sash and case windows at the rear.
The interior was not inspected in 1996.
The boundary walls have painted coping along the section adjacent to Shore Road, with a coped random rubble wall along the High Road. Painted square-plan, corniced piers, with pyramidal caps and cast-iron gates, are located to the side. An adjoining outbuilding features regularly-disposed doors in all bays, with a single garage projecting to the outer right, and a modern roofing material.
