Description
The boundary walls and railings of the former Point House, located at 22 and 24 High Street in Port Bannatyne, date back to the early 19th century. This single-storey building with a basement features a three-bay design and classical architectural details, set on a sloping site that rises to a two-storey structure with an attic at the rear.
The front elevation showcases whitewashed, coursed sandstone rubble on the first floor, with painted margins and coursed sandstone rubble at the basement level. A raised band course marks the principal floor, and there is a lintel course beneath a moulded cornice, along with projecting cills and a pilastered entrance. The rear elevation is finished with whitewashed harl, featuring a full-height yellow sandstone ashlar canted bay on the outer left, with painted margins on the remaining openings and a yellow ashlar doorpiece.
The entrance at number 24 on the southwest elevation has a replacement timber door at the center, flanked by an original geometric-patterned fanlight and a doorpiece with pilasters, a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a block pediment. There are single windows in the bays to the outer left and right, as well as single windows at the basement level.
The northeast elevation, which serves as the entrance for number 22, features a corniced and pilastered doorpiece at the center (although the door is missing) and a single window aligned on the first floor. There are single windows on both floors in the bay to the outer right, and 3-light canted windows on both floors in the bay to the outer left. Additionally, there are single box dormers offset to the left and right of the center.
The building predominantly has 12-pane timber sash and case glazing, with some lying-pane glazing at the rear and a few boarded openings. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has a piended design, with replacement rainwater goods. The southeast side features a corniced, droved red sandstone wallhead stack, while the northwest side has a red brick apex stack, both with circular cans.
The boundary wall consists of a low coped sandstone wall at the front, which encloses the basement area and is topped with cast-iron railings that have fleur-de-lys finials. There is also a low coped rubble wall enclosing the site along the High Road.
