Description

57 Princes Street East in Helensburgh is an earlier 19th-century building that underwent remodelling in the later 19th century. It is a two-storey and attic, three-bay near-symmetrical tenement constructed of red sandstone rubble, with the south elevation rendered. The building features a base course, raised margins, bargeboarded gables above the attic windows, and quoin strips.

On the south elevation facing Princes Street, there is an off-centre right doorway with a fanlit door, accompanied by a window to the right and additional windows in the outer bays. The first floor has three windows, and there are three dormer windows breaking the eaves above, each with gabled dormerheads.

The east elevation facing Lomond Street has a doorway located off-centre to the right, with a window at the first floor and an attic window to the outer left, as well as a small attic window in the centre.

The north rear elevation features a deep curved stair tower that projects to the centre, topped with a fishscale slate conical roof that is swept at the eaves, and includes a doorway to the east.

The building displays a variety of glazing patterns, including some four-pane sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and the east gable has ashlar coped skew with rendered coped stacks.
