Gardener's Cottage, Kames Castle, Bute

Gardener's Cottage at Kames Castle is a single-storey, three-bay gabled cottage built in the later 19th century. It features a prominent entrance bay at the center and has flat-roofed additions at the rear, which are partly rendered rubble and partly red brick. The exterior is constructed from coursed red sandstone rubble with slightly raised, polished margins, and the sides and rear are finished with harl-pointed random rubble sandstone. The cottage has overhanging corniced timber eaves, red rubble quoins, and long and short red rubble surrounds around the openings, with flush cills.

On the south elevation, the central gabled bay includes a single window and decorative timber detailing in the gablehead, topped with a tapering timber finial. To the right, there is a two-leaf timber panelled door with a bipartite fanlight. Single windows are recessed in the outer bays to the left and right.

The north elevation features single bay additions that project at the center, with single windows in the outer bays to the left and right.

The cottage has predominantly six-pane timber sash and case windows, along with various skylights. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has coped sandstone apex stacks on the east and west sides, with circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1996.
