Description
The Fernery at Ascog Hall, built around 1870 and refurbished in the late 20th century, is a kidney-shaped sunken glazed structure located to the south of Ascog Hall. It is primarily constructed of red sandstone rubble and features cast-iron roof girders.
The entrance to the east is made of rubble sandstone, leading into the sunken area which has rubble walls. At the center, there is an ornamental stream and rockery. Rubble fern-holders are placed irregularly around the outer walls, and the floor is pebble-cobbled. The shallow-domed, glazed roof is supported by cast-iron girders, and there is also replacement cast-iron brattishing.
