Description
The Old Manse in Ascog, Bute, is a former manse built in the mid to later 19th century. It is an asymmetrical, two-storey building with three bays and features a gabled design. The porch is piended and recessed to the outer left. The exterior is constructed from harl-pointed rubble sandstone with painted margins and strip quoins. There is a raised band course at the principal floor, overhanging timber eaves, and tapering timber finials on the gables.
On the northeast elevation, there is a painted render canted window at ground level in the outer right bay, with projecting cills and lying-pane glazing. Above, a single window is aligned beneath the first-floor apex. A small round-arched window breaks the eaves in the central bay. The advanced gabled bay to the outer left has single windows on both floors and a two-leaf timber panelled door set in the entrance porch.
The windows predominantly feature 12-pane lying-pane timber sash and case glazing. The roof is covered with graded grey slate, and the rainwater goods have been replaced. There are corniced apex stacks on the northwest and southeast sides, along with various octagonal chimney cans.
The boundary wall is made of coped harl-pointed rubble and runs along the front of the property. It includes stop-chamfered, square-plan painted piers that flank the pedestrian entrance on the left and the vehicular entrance on the right, both topped with pyramidal caps.
