8 Marine Place, Rothesay, Bute

8 Marine Place is a mid to later 19th century, symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay house designed in a plain classical style. It has a rectangular plan with a rear projection and features a single-storey lean-to conservatory on the left side, along with a single-storey rubble sandstone outbuilding, which serves as a garage, recessed to the right. The exterior is finished in painted render and includes a raised base course, a corniced string course, and a raised lintel course beneath the overhanging eaves, with projecting cills. Notable decorative elements include a cast-iron porch and cast-iron brattishing.

On the entrance elevation, there is a centrally located two-leaf part-glazed timber door at ground level, topped by a plate-glass fanlight. The porch features stylised cast-iron pilasters on either side and cast-iron brattishing above a cornice that spans the central bay. The first floor has a single window, while the outer bays on both floors display three-light canted windows. All openings have replacement glazing. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has a piended design, along with cast-iron brattishing.

The interior was not seen in 1996. The outbuilding, which is shared with the adjacent property at No 9, has a single garage entrance offset to the left of centre and is also covered with graded grey slate.

The boundary wall consists of a low coped part-rendered sandstone wall along Marine Place, with painted square-plan, stop-chamfered piers at the outer left and right, topped with pyramidal caps. There are replacement cast-iron vehicular gates.
