Description
Bonaly is a villa located on Rosneath Road in Clynder, designed in the style of Alexander Thomson during the mid to late 19th century. This two-storey, three-bay building has a rectangular plan and features a rear jamb. It is constructed from squared honey-coloured sandstone with ashlar margins and dressings, a base course, and projecting eaves with exposed rafters. The gables break the eaves above the first-floor windows, which are round-headed and have defined Tuscan voussoirs and keystones. There is decorative cast-iron detailing at the guttering, and the edges of the building have roll-moulded arrises.
On the east elevation, there is a gabled bay at the center with steps leading up to a door that is framed by a coped ashlar balustrade and corniced dies. The door has a round-headed, cavetto-chamfered surround, a plate glass fanlight, and an ashlar semicircular canopy supported by decorative consoles. A tripartite half-glazed vestibule door with etched glass is present, along with a round-headed window above. Flanking the central bay are bowed windows set on battered base courses with lead roofs, and there is another round-headed window above, also with gable breaking eaves.
The north elevation features a broad gable with a cellar door at the ground level to the outer left and windows at the principal floor to both the outer left and right, with the right window being barred. There is a round-headed window in the gable on the outer left, and a door and window are located in a single-storey jamb to the outer right.
The villa has plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and lead flashings. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1993.
