Description

This building is a lodge located at 150 Clyde Street East in Helensburgh, attributed to Alexander Thomson and built in 1854, with additions by T L Watson in 1881. It is a single storey and attic structure with an asymmetrical design. The exterior features squared and stugged cream sandstone with ashlar dressings, and the south and east elevations are harled. Notable architectural details include a base course, margins around the ground floor windows, stylised mullions, and quoin strips.

On the south elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central doorway flanked by a lean-to open timber verandah set on a stone plinth. The west elevation features a gable bay with a ground floor window and a small bipartite attic window that has an ashlar mullion topped with a cavetto capital.

The north elevation, facing Clyde Street, has a taller gabled bay on the left with a ground floor window and a bipartite attic window, also with a cavetto capital on the mullion. It includes a cavetto band course at the flanking angles and a lintel course. There is a small attic window on the return to the right. To the right, a lower block is recessed, featuring an advanced 3-light window bay with a cat-slide roof in the re-entrant angle, along with a single light window on the return.

The lodge predominantly has plate glass timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, a coped ashlar stack, and moulded cans.

Additionally, there are gatepiers, gates, and a boundary wall surrounding the property. The square-plan piers are rendered and painted with moulded caps, and there are cast-iron gates along with flanking quadrant walls and harled boundary walls.
