Description
The Lodge at Rockfort, located at 154 Clyde Street East in Helensburgh, was built in 1849 and is a single-storey, symmetrical structure with three bays. The exterior is harled with ashlar dressings, featuring chamfered arrises, overhanging eaves, and a plain bargeboard.
On the entrance elevation, there is a central doorway with two-leaf boarded doors, flanked by windows. The north elevation, facing Clyde Street East, has an unsympathetic lower flat-roofed extension that incorporates a quadrant wall beside the entrance, with three windows added to the wall.
The windows are sash and case style, with six panes in the lower sash and eight panes in the upper sash. The roof is covered with grey slate and has tall corniced polygonal end stacks.
The boundary wall and gatepiers consist of tall gatepiers that are rendered and lined to resemble ashlar, with chamfered angles and corniced, moulded flat caps. There are small, poor-quality modern piers situated between the original piers. The boundary is further defined by coped quadrant rubble walls and rubble boundary walls.
