Description

Loch-Na-Brae is a pair of cottages from the earlier 19th century that were enlarged and altered in the mid-19th century. The building features a single storey and a two-storey section with a rambling plan. The two-storey part has quoin strips and is finished in painted harl with sandstone margins and dressings, along with corbelled cills.

On the main elevation facing east, there are two two-storey bays on the outer right. The ground floor features a canted window on the outer right, with a bipartite window above it. To the left, there is a door framed by a sandstone corniced doorpiece with roll-moulded arrises, leading to a two-leaf, six-panelled door and a three-quarter glazed vestibule door topped with a plate glass fanlight. Above, there is a segmental-headed window that breaks the eaves. To the left, the single-storey section has three bays, with a window at the centre that has a sandstone cill and a segmental-headed pediment with a cartouche that also breaks the eaves. Flanking this are canted windows.

The south elevation showcases the M-gable of the original cottages, with a modern door to the outer right of the right gable and a window to the right of the left gable.

On the north elevation, there is a tripartite window on the ground floor to the right, and a segmental-headed window to the left of centre on the first floor.

The windows are plate glass sash and case types. The roof is slate with lead flashings, and there are paired, corniced sandstone wallhead and ridge stacks on pedestal bases, topped with octagonal cans.
