Description

A pair of cottages, originally a single house, with an attached outbuilding, dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid 19th century. The cottages are built of coursed coal measures sandstone with ashlar dressings, flush quoins, coped gables incorporating moulded kneelers, and gable brick stacks. The main part of the cottages is two storeys high and has three bays, featuring glazing bar sashes beneath flat lintels, where the stone faces are incised to resemble voussoirs. A centrally placed double doorway has massive ashlar jambs and lintels, incorporating rectangular overlights with margin glazing. The doorways now have 20th-century doors, one plain and one glazed. The attached outbuilding, which is two storeys high and four bays wide, has a single doorway to its east end with a substantial surround and a plain door. The upper floor of the outbuilding has vertical ventilation slits.
