Description
Belmore House in Faslane is an Italianate villa that originated in the early 19th century but underwent significant remodeling and enlargement in 1856. It was refurbished again in 1984 by the Property Services Agency. The building is two stories tall and has an asymmetrical L-shaped plan. Its exterior is harled with yellow sandstone margins and dressings, featuring projecting bracketed eaves, a base course, and round-arched windows.
On the south elevation, there are seven bays. To the left, there is a three-stage campanile entrance tower, which includes a corniced and pilastered door with an urn balustrade and a two-leaf panelled door. Above it, there is a window on the first floor and a tripartite arcade window on the upper floor, topped with a piended roof. To the outer left, there is a taller, narrow four-stage square tower with narrow windows. The lower four-bay block to the right has a fifth gabled bay at the outer right, with windows arranged as tripartite-single-single-bipartite on each floor, and a bipartite window at the ground level of the gable. An oriel window features a large arched window on the first floor.
The west elevation consists of a four-bay block with a narrow entrance tower recessed to the outer right. The outer left has a gable with a full-height canted bay and a small arched window in the gablehead. The center two bays contain architraved bipartite windows, while the outer right gable has a broad canted window at the ground level, a battered base, and a balustrade. Above, there is a three-light arcade window on the first floor and a single arched window in the gablehead.
The villa features four-pane and plate glass sash and case windows with secondary glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes Velux rooflights. The chimneys were removed during the refurbishment.
Inside, the building was modernized in 1984 and now has a contemporary office interior with suspended ceilings and other modern features.
