Sundial, Faslane Cemetery, Faslane

Caretaker's Lodge at Faslane Cemetery is an early 20th-century building that serves as a caretaker's house located to the west of the cemetery. It is a single-storey structure with an attic and has a rectangular plan with four bays. The exterior is finished in grey harl with ashlar dressings and details. The building features projecting eaves and exposed rafters, with the gable advanced to the outer left. There are three narrow windows at ground level with a single lintel, and a small window at the gablehead. The entrance door is situated to the right and is sheltered by a cat-slide roof that forms a porch canopy, supported by stone corbels and timber brackets. The door is boarded, and there is a 6-pane over plate glass sash and case window, along with small-paned casement and dormer windows. The roof is covered with variegated green and grey tiles, topped with red clay ridge tiles. The chimney stacks are harled and coped, with round terracotta cans.

The cemetery itself contains several notable early 20th-century burial monuments, including an Art Nouveau monument against the east wall. This monument features a red sandstone cross at the center on a plinth, flanked by two curvilinear kneeling angels in profile, although the inscription has faded. To the north is the Kilpatrick monument, dated 1938, which is a geometric, angular structure on a plinth with a cross at the center and inscriptions.

Additionally, there is a sundial erected in the early 20th century, post-1919, as a monument to the Davidson family. This sundial was established by David Davidson, an iron-founder who lived from 1850 to 1919, in memory of his wife Alice (1862-1901) and their daughter Eugenie. The sundial is made of ashlar and stands on an octagonal base, featuring a barley-sugar column of twisted serpents. The capital of the column is adorned with figurative carvings of the four winds, supporting a square sundial block that is diagonally aligned with cherub heads under each corner and a copper gnomon. The carving above is capped by a ball finial.
