Entrance Arch To Former Poor House, Witchburn Road, Campbeltown

The entrance arch to the former poor house on Witchburn Road in Campbeltown was designed by John Honeyman in 1861. It features a boundary wall made of random rubble with a concrete coping along Dell Road, and the main entrance arch is centrally located. The entrance gate is made of droved ashlar and consists of a gabled arch with a base course, a string course at the level of the arch springer, and a cavetto-moulded skew. Flanking the round-arched entrance are incised colonnettes with capitals and bases, leading to an architraved arch-head. The entrance includes two vertically-boarded timber doors with iron hinges and a handle. Additionally, there is an early 20th century concrete architraved doorway to the east.
