North Signal Box, Montrose Station, Basin View, Montrose

The North Signal Box at Montrose Station was built in 1881 by the North British Railway Company and is a Type 1 signal box. It is a two-storey structure with a brick base and a timber signal box featuring a piended roof with overhanging eaves. The ground floor has two segmental-arched windows, while the upper floor is fully glazed with eight windows that have non-traditional four-pane glazing, separated by heavy timber mullions on the trackside elevation. There are also two four-pane windows on the north and south sides at ground level. On the south side, there is a timber forestair, which has been replaced with non-traditional metal in 2007, leading to a timber porch outshot. The roof is covered with grey slate. Inside, there is a 31 lever Stevens and Sons patent frame.
