Description

Liff Primary School and Schoolhouse, built around 1830, features an extension to the north and a single-storey west bay likely added in 1873 by Mr. Salmond. The complex consists of a single-storey, rectangular-plan school adjacent to a two-storey, three-bay schoolhouse, forming a T-plan layout. The buildings are constructed of rubble with droved and margined dressings, and the additions are stugged and margined. They have piended slate roofs. The schoolhouse has 16-pane sash and case windows on its south elevation and three original bays of the school on the west elevation, with mostly bipartite 12-pane sash and case windows elsewhere. An ashlar end stack rises through the eaves at the north gable of the school, while there is a brick stack on the east elevation and brick end stacks on the house.

On the south elevation, there is a boarded door with a fanlight at the center, flanked by windows on both sides, and three windows on the first floor. To the left, there is a 12-pane window in a single-storey bay that is recessed.

The west elevation features the school on the left with a lean-to entrance porch to the right, a multi-pane dormer with a half-piended roof above, and three windows to the left. There is also a lean-to entrance porch at the far left with a bipartite 6-pane window, and doors to the left and right returns, with a bipartite window behind cast-iron railings at the far left. The house on the right has a single-storey gable that advances from the house gable to the left, a 12-pane window, and a door with a fanlight at the left return, along with a 12-pane window on the first floor of the main house's left return.

On the east elevation, the house gable is to the left with a 16-pane window on the first floor. The school is recessed to the right, featuring three bipartite windows and a single window to the left.

Inside, the school is now a single room with a boarded dado. The house has had its chimneypieces removed, but some panelled window reveals remain, along with a well stair featuring plain cast-iron balusters.

The boundary walls consist of a rubble wall to the north and east, with a rubble wall featuring saddleback coping, a footgate, and iron railings that curve to the southwest corner.
