Main Gate Lodge And Gatepiers, Royal Dundee Liff Hospital

The Main Gate Lodge and Gatepiers at the Royal Dundee Liff Hospital were designed by Charles Edward and Thomas Saunders Robertson in the later 19th century. This single-storey lodge has an irregular plan and is constructed from snecked sandstone rubble with a grey slate roof. It features single and bipartite windows, as well as 3-light canted windows that include a base course and a crenellated parapet. The windows have chamfered jambs and original 2-pane timber sash and case glazing. The building is adorned with crowstepped gables and corniced stacks topped with uniform cream cans.

On the west (front) elevation, there is a door with a fanlight set in an angled gables porch that projects from the left re-entrant angle. To the left, there is a single window, while an advanced gable to the right features a canted window. The far right has a slightly recessed bay with a bipartite window, and there is a single window on the left return gable.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1998. The gatepiers consist of two ball-finialled, octagonal ashlar gatepiers, which are flanked by two corniced rectangular ashlar gatepiers.
