8 Burnside Of Duntrune, Burnside Of Duntrune

8 Burnside of Duntrune is a row of three former cottages, originally built in 1828, with one slightly earlier block. The cottages are situated on sloping ground and follow the curve of the road. They consist of a single storey and attic, a single storey, and a single storey with a basement. The construction features rubble sandstone with droved and margined quoins, most of which have been cleaned, along with some concrete window dressings. The roof is covered with purple and grey slate. The windows were originally lying-pane sash and case, but most have been replaced with uPVC or aluminium frames that do not match the original style. The cottages have plain bargeboards and moulded gable and ridge stacks.

The front elevation includes an L-plan section on the left, featuring a window and door at the left, and an advanced gable on the right with a window on both the ground floor and attic. To the right is a single storey, three-bay section with a door in a slightly advanced gable and windows on either side. The far right has another L-plan section with a projecting window at the advanced gable on the left, a round-headed opening in the attic, and a door and window on the right. There is also a door leading to the basement and a corbelled oriel window with its original glazing pattern.

The rear elevation has a centrally located projecting piended roof wing and various smaller additions, including some modern rooflights, windows, and a porch.

The earlier block is located immediately behind the northern cottage (No 9) and features a gable with Aberdeen bond masonry. It has a door at the basement and a window with original glazing on the main floor, both with chamfered margins. There is a blocked arrow slit opening in the attic and chamfered coping at the skew. The right return elevation has a blocked window at the basement and a blocked door on the main floor that previously had a forestair, along with a 12-pane sash and case window to the right.

At the front of the cottages, there is a low rubble boundary wall topped with cast-iron railings.
