Description

The Town Clerk's and Police Offices at 32, 34, and 36 Bank Street in Brechin were built around 1900 in the Edwardian freestyle style. The building features stugged ashlar stone with polished dressings and stands two storeys high with an attic. The entrance consists of two double-leaf panelled doors, flanked by three semi-elliptically arched windows that are keyblocked and have modified ogee hoodmoulds. The doors are set within fluted console pilasters with an extravagant profile, and there are panels above topped with scrolled pediments.

A bold string course runs along the first floor apron zone, and the outer bays have bracketed sills. The outer first-floor windows are unmullioned tripartites, with two narrow single-light pedimented windows positioned above the doors. The central three-light canted bay is set in an arched recess and is topped with a shaped chimney gable, flanked by semi-circular pinnacles.

There are two pedimented dormers with semi-circular windows and shaped gables in the parapet above the outer bays. The main cornice is deep, and the building has a piended slated roof with a red tile crested ridge. To the right, there is a recessed single-storey block with a door and a piended roof. A decorative cast iron gas lamp is positioned at the centre front of the building.
