Description
Later 19th century. 3-storey and attic, 2-bay tenement in irregular terrace with shop at ground and 2-storey tenement to rear. Stugged and smooth sandstone ashlar, painted at ground. Fascia and cornice above ground, eaves cornice.
NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: ground floor shopfront and pend entrance divided by cast-iron attached columns with decorative capitals. Pend entrance to right, timber gate. Shop ffront to left with 2-leaf panelled outer doors to centre and flanking plate glass windows. 2 bays at 1st and 2nd floors slightly projecting, with stone mullioned bipartites. 2 canted dormers above.
NE ELEVATION: adjoining 9/11 Castle Place to front (right), 2-storey wing extending SE.
SW ELEVATION: adjoining 14 Castle Place to front (left) Single bay of front block in Close to rear; stone flight with cast-iron balustrade leading to round-arched entrance porch at 1st floor, paired doorways within, panelled doors and rectangular fanlights. Single bay in SE facing return to left. 2-storey tenement to rear; 8 bays at ground floor, 8 bays at 1st floor, 2nd window to left blinded, 3 4-panel doors with rectangular 2-pane fanlights.
Timber sash and case windows, plate glass, some modern replacements. Grey slate roof, single pitch to front, flat to rear of front block. Coped skews. Brick gable head stack to NE, ashlar to SW.
BOUNDARY WALLS: coped, squared rubble walls to rear.
